Adobe, the leading American company in software for the graphics industry, has decided to make Adobe XD, its latest software for prototyping websites and apps, free.
The choice may seem generous and unexpected by Adobe, but it is a move due to the competitive and crowded software prototype interface, one of the hottest and growing. In fact, in this segment we find the well-known Sketch, with its very loyal user base, along with Axure and proto.io. There is also the new invision that promises well.
Adobe XD seems to be still unripe and – I think – left deliberately rather spartan by Adobe: some advanced features like ‘on page’ transitions, or the expandability possible for example with Sketch plug-ins are missing.
But the essential is in this young Adobe app, and future updates will come from the American colossus.
The copy-paste compatibility with Adobe Illustrator remains a great plus, for those who want to create high-fidelity graphics as it should be and quickly pour it into XD to create an interactive prototype.
